What is the Biggest University in the World?

“Education is a right and should never be a privilege”
Education is one of the best things that we could have in this life. It is through education where our minds are being honed and taught with different information and ideas. Without this right, we end up becoming defenseless and naive about the world. This is why schools and universities are being built in order to help deliver education into the hands of all individuals. The only sad thing about this is that most universities do require a price to pay for education and these prices are not even affordable. Nevertheless, there are still millions of students enrolling in different universities worldwide. This has made the student population balloon in only a few years. So, what is the biggest university in the world?

There are actually a lot of universities all over the globe. Some of these universities do have a population of less than 5,000 students while there are also some that caters more than one million enrollees. As of now, the biggest university in terms of the school’s population is the Allama Iqbal Open University, which is located in the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad. This was founded in the year 1974 and is considered a government-owned facility. The current population of its students is around 1,806,000 students. This makes the Allama Iqbal as the biggest university in the world in terms of population. This is then followed by another Asian university known as the Indira Gandhi National Open University which is located in the heart of New Delhi, India. Like Allama Iqbal, the Indira Gandhi University is also a public school that serves approximately 1.8 million students. This earns them the second spot as the biggest university in the world. The third biggest university, which is known as the Islamic Azad University, can be found in Tehran, Iran. This was built last 1982 and is considered as the only private school that has entered the top 10 biggest universities in the world in terms of population. It currently has a student population of over 1.3 million.

These are the top three schools that are known as the biggest in the world judging by their student population. However, if we were to judge it by the university campus’ size and area, Stanford University holds the record as the biggest university in the world with approximately more than 8,100 acres.

No matter how big the campus or how populated the university is, education is still the main purpose why these facilities are being built. Being the biggest university in the world will not matter as long as the quality of education being taught is never below excellent.
