Further, the world cup is also called by other names like soccer world cup, FIFA world cup and football world cup.  The sport’s global governing body is the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).  It is an international association of football competition played by the senior’s men’s national teams.

If you haven’t heard of the world cup yet, you are probably living in another planet.  And regarding on how long does the world cup last for, even though the competitions runs for a month, it does not mean that the fans stayed in the host country for 30 days.  Air fares, hotel accommodations, food expenses, and match tickets can be expensive.  Hence, most fans only watch the games of their national team.

However, if you and your friends want to stay for the whole duration of the world cup, you can rent an entire apartment for a month, since it’s cheaper compared to hotels.

The world cup being the most widely viewed sporting event in the world involves 32 teams playing for the title over a period of 30 days, called the world cup finals.  There is a qualification phase played over the preceding 3 years, to know which teams qualify for the event.  The average game matches will last for 90 minutes.

In a sporting competition like football, winning is everything, as this will bring immense national pride to a country.  Street celebrations, concerts and fans waving their flags are often seen during this whole competition.

Moreover, this international sporting event does not only unite people from all over the world, but it also creates opportunities, especially for the host country.  Tourism in the host country will increase, global exposures, and advertisers will pour in huge amount of money for their campaigns.  For these reasons, no wonder many countries would like to host the world cup.  In 2014, Brazil is slated to host the sporting competition.

Unarguably, the FIFA world cup is more than just a sporting competition.  It promotes cross-cultural interactions and brotherhood among different nations.
